Team Edward

Ok, so it's not what you think {well kind of}.  So, Nate got home from work last night and decided "its Friday night, let's go out", ok "I'm in!"  We get to this dive bar called Billy Budd's and I'm thinking "where is he taking me?" He had been there before and heard they have "Name That Tune Fridays." So he wanted to check it out.  We get there pretty early, have a beer, ask the waitress when it starts, she says 9:30, we were thinking of leaving {because I had a ridiculous craving for Chili's chips and salsa with a margarita of course}, but just then the waitress comes by, asks if we want another round, Nate looks at me implying the decision was mine.  In my head I'm telling her "no thank you, just the bill please" but apparently I told her "SURE!" because seconds later she brings us our second round. I was mad because I WANTED CHIPS, I didn't mean to tell her "yeah, we'll stay in this dump." So now I'm upset, deprived of chips, all the while Nate is laughing at my little tantrum {and pleased because he has a fresh beer}. Nice.

Well, it ended up being the best mistake ever.  Shortly after we get our second round of beers, Name That Tune is getting started.  We decide to play, why not. And because Nate feels bad, he asks for a menu and we get an order of nachos to appease me. They turned out to be the BEST nachos I've ever had. The night is looking up. We had to come up with a team name and because I was talking about Robert Pattinson earlier that night, Nate decides we should call ourselves "Team Edward" {yet another reason why I love him so}. Oddly enough though, everyone just assumed Edward was Nate's name, apparently we don't look like Twi-hards.  It wasn't until the "Bar Boss" bought us a round of shots because she caught on to our Twilight reference and claimed to be "Team Edward" too, that I could explain his name was Nathan not Edward. There were enough laughs to go around at that moment.  It was truly hilarious.

The game starts and we don't have high expectations.  There were only four teams, everyone sitting at the bar was one team, another team which had their iPhones to help them out, a team that consisted of a musical genius, and then there was Nate and I.  All things considered and sans fancy phones, we held our own.  There were four rounds where each team was asked to ID two songs per round.  5 points each for name and artist, if one team couldn't answer correctly, the next team had a chance to steal. The rounds were music by the decade.  We stole KC and the Sunshine Band - Boogeyman from the bar team {what bar crowd doesn't know that song?} racked up the points with CCR, ABBA, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, George Thorogood, BTO, and Garth Brooks.  We were doing well, but we weren't taking any chances when the NTT crew offered up bonus points, we took advantage.  We ended up line dancing with complete strangers, dancing around our table, and dragging strange-looking individuals over to dance with, all earning us massive bonus points.  Despite all our efforts, we did not win, and nope we weren't even runner-ups, we came in third of four teams.  Well at least we weren't last.  And when we found out there was no prize, we were a little less bummed, still knowing the only prize that matters is bragging rights.  Our egos were hurt.  Regardless, the night ended up being a huge success.

That's OK Billy Budd's...know this...we WILL be back and you best believe we will be bringing reinforcements!
