My Fix

My trip to Calgary was just what the doctor ordered.  I was feeling a little homesick, needing some quality girl time and desperately wanting a craft night.  I got my fix of all three.  I had the best time with Desi, Liv and even Lily their very needy chihuahua.  Desi cooked up some amazing meals, introduced me to my new favorite drink, half white wine half ginger ale, and brought me thrifting where I picked up my newest crafty accomplishment.

Our Saturday night was spent crafting on the floor watching Twilight, drinking wine, and Desi trying diligently to put a super excited Liv to sleep.  She reeeealllly wanted the sun to wake up so we could go for a walk through the park.  It was one of the best Saturday nights I'd had in a while, although Desi might not agree.

I'm excited to share the pics of my crafty accomplishment.  It was a 4 tier candelabra from Value Village, half brass, half wood and in really rough shape.  I saw potential, so I bought it for $7.  Then we took a trip to Michael's where I picked up some acrylic paint.  I had been wanting to try Martha's pearl finish acrylics for a while now and this was the perfect opportunity.  Desi recommended that I get a cheap white acrylic for the base, as Martha's acrylics are pricey and I would need a few coats.  I spent $3 for the paints and a brush.  It took four coats total, two of the cheap stuff and two of the pearlized.  I apologize in advance for the quality of picture.  My camera relies heavily on natural light for a decent photo.  I wasn't thinking ahead, so this is what we get.

 The ugly before.

After...

Better lighting.

With candles.
