Sunhaven
Last night Nate and I headed out to catch some of the horse races at Northlands park. It's actually a pretty entertaining night out for very little cost, unless of course you choose to bet on the horses...which we did. Normally Nate and I never win anything, but we took our chances on a few horses. Now we aren't high rollers or anything, our bets never exceeded $2 {our history of losing had everything to do with that}. Last night, however, was a different story. Of course we picked some of the favorites to win and they did, but because they were the favs, the amount we won was very small. The real money is in the long shots with the low odds of winning. That's how I like to bet, it's only $2 after all. We bet on six races and won in all but one. Going into the last race we had won our money back so it was already a success. Nate went to check out the horses and came back with what he thought would be the winners, horses 2, 3, and 9. We placed our bets on those horses, he chose 3 or 9 to win, I chose 2 to win because she was the long shot. The race starts and immediately my horse, Sunhaven, is in last place {of 10 horses}. I lost interest in the race at that point, there was no way she could catch up. Nate's horses, on the other hand, were in first and second place so far, so at least we'd win something. All of a sudden I hear Nate yelling because there was another horse creeping up to the front of the pack with a vengeance, "who the hell is this horse", he says. I turn to the race again and realize that's MY horse, SUNHAVEN! She came from last place and is now flying to the lead. She ends up winning the race and I hear everyone around us bumming out because they all lost their bets. Not us, she had 21-1 odds of winning, and we won! That's about the time we regretted only betting the minimum, but still on a $2 bet, we won $50. We never thought we'd be walking out with more money, that just doesn't happen. Thank you Sunhaven for the extra dough!

I just want you to know that now whenever I'm pleasantly surprised, I yell, "SUUNNNHAAVENNN!"
