This entire post will be devoted to Apothecary Jars. Its an obsession of mine really. I know they are a huge trend that started up a while back, but I believe they are a timeless decor. The downfall to apothecary jars is their cost. So I am always on the lookout for a great deal to justify my purchases. The first bargain find was at a Marshall's back in Michigan. My mom and I walked out with 4 beautiful jars, all a different style. The price for each...$9.99. Not bad. But the best purchase was here in Edmonton. Nate and I went browsing around a furniture store and they were loaded with apothecary jars. I checked out the price on a few and they were through the roof expensive...Nate was not convinced they were worth the price...and with some of them around $90, I wasn't either. Until we spotted one that was gorgeous and larger than some of the more expensive ones we had seen, we wanted to see just what ridiculous price they were asking for this one. To our surprise it was on sale,
I just love seeing that little red clearance sticker. We did a double take at the cost, but it was on sale for $12.95, down from $69.99! Of course we ended up taking that one home.
Why the obsession? Apart from wanting them as decor for our future home, I am collecting them for a candy bar at our reception next summer. That too is a trend for weddings, but let's be honest
who doesn't love candy? Here are some images that began this whole ordeal.
With ribbon detail...found
here.
And imagine the possibilities when you get a little crafty and see what you can make on your own. You could go to any dollar store and pick up a glass candlestick like the one below.
And then find a suitable glass vase or bowl, as pictured below, and glue the two pieces together with epoxy. These two images found
here.
The lid could be a little tricky, but basically what you'll need is a small glass bowl, flipped upside down so that it just fits inside the diameter of the vase. Affix a finial, of wood or metal, could be spraypainted to any color or finish, to the bottom of the small bowl...et voila! You have a homemade apothecary jar. Obviously this is something I have already in the works. I'll let you know how it goes!
